Waterproofing of pool with Cement and Tiles
What do we need?
The pool waterproofing is a demanding task that requires special attention in the design and implementation and shall provide the ability to build to withstand the high loads hydrostatic pressure , both positive and negative, which receives over time and in severe expansion and contraction caused by the effect of weather conditions (heat – frost) when it is emptied for maintenance.
If tiling chosen for the decoration of the bottom and walls, tile adhesives and grouts to be used should have the necessary flexibility in contraction and the required resistance to chemical factors of water ( eg chlorine) .
How do we do it?
For waterproofing of the pool will use a combination of waterproofing mortars and admixtures improvements of THRAKON (DSF 350 FLEX, DSF 370, GLX 296) and for tiling a combination of high elastic adhesive VKW 128 and EPOXY grout FMF 155. The above system creates an excellent seal against water pressure and gives the pool high resistance over time.

Step by step
- First remove all loose, clean and wash the surfaces to be applied materials.
- Projecting irons are cut at a depth of 2 cm below the concrete surface. Also clean any corroded metal and fittings.
- Prime with primer WRM 510 all exposed metal parts on which to apply the brushable mortar.
- Crucify the acrylic primer high penetration GLX 292 FLEX PRIM on all surfaces of concrete, on which will be applied materials.
- Prime all surfaces with high penetration acrylic primer GLX 292 FLEX Prim.
- Large cracks (> 1 mm) and gaps close with fast setting repairing mortar WRM 520.
- If there are water leaks are sealed with super-fast setting sealant mortar WRM 500.
Case uneven substrate of pool carrier > 2 cm: Where necessary smoothing > 2cm wall surface and the bottom of the pool is done by applying strong cement. The cement used for filling, flattening and waterproofing pools must be impermeable to water and form a barrier protecting from simple moisture to the hydrostatic pressure. see. Waterproofing cement mortars.
Case uneven substrate of pool carrier < 2 cm: Where necessary smoothing > 2cm wall surface and the bottom of the pool is done by applying waterproofing plaster DSF 370 which is impermeable to water and resist to negative and positive hydrostatic pressure.
The application is done with a trowel or wide spatula, pressing the material to fill all gaps. When pulled, rubbed with hard float to smooth the surface. The application thickness is usually 2 cm.
Then depending on the texture of the surface finish and thickness of the plaster that will apply, we can apply a second hand as final grater. We applying the grater when first hand dry out.
During the summer months, especially surfaces that are under the sun, should be soaked for two days after application, and avoid quick drying of the surface, to avoid cracking.
Application of brushable waterproofing:
Priming first the substrate with acrylic high penetration primer GLX 292 FLEX PRIM. When the primer has dried apply with a roller or a stiff brush, waterproofing brushable two-component mortar DSF 350 FLEX to 3-4 layers crosswise. Each layer is applied over the preceding when it is dry. Along the connection of masonry with the floor it is recommended to reinforce the waterproofing membrane with elastic fiberglass tape KF 12/7 or by elastic polyester fabric tape F 12/7, width 12cm.
The placement is done in the following way:
Apply a layer of DSF 350 FLEX, width 15 – 17 cm along the points in need of aid and place the film layer while is still damp. Two to three more layers follow each after drying the previous one. After completion of the whole application , and after complete drying of the waterproofing ( 24 hours after application) , the substrate may directly cover with ceramic tiles using high elasticity adhesive VKW 129 LUTRA FLEX and be assembled with epoxy grout FMF 155 .
